Hon. Jon Hulsing was appointed to the Ottawa County Circuit Court by Governor Jennifer Granholm in 2006 and has since been elected and twice re-elected. He is the chief judge pro tempore and serves in the General Civil/Criminal Division of the court and previously served in the Family Division. A former police officer, Judge Hulsing was in private practice for six years and served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Ottawa County for eight years.
A summa cum laude graduate of the Thomas Cooley Law School, Judge Hulsing is a member of the Criminal Law and Family Law Sections of the State Bar of Michigan. Judge Hulsing is active in the Michigan Judges’ Association and represented that entity on the Eye Witness Identification Task force of the State Bar of Michigan. Judge Hulsing is also a member of the General Civil Michigan Court Forms Committee.
Active in the community, he currently serves as a board member of 70 X 7 Life Recovery, a Christian based organization providing addiction recovery, employment and mentoring support for parolees and probationers. Judge Hulsing previously served on the boards of the Children’s Resource Network, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and Georgetown Little League. Judge Hulsing joined the Commission in January, 2019, after having been elected by the state-wide Circuit Court bench to be its representative on the Commission.
