Michigan Code of Judicial Conduct

The Michigan Supreme Court adopts the Code of Judicial Conduct, and the most recent version (reflecting extensive revisions) took effect in October 1993. From time to time, the Supreme Court effects changes in individual Canons of the Code (which most recently occurred as to Canon 7 effective May 1, 2019) or modifies it to address nonsubstantive matters such as court rule numeration (which was most recently done effective March 9, 2016). The Code, along with certain provisions of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, Michigan Court Rules, and statutory and case authority, provides the ethical and disciplinary guidelines for judicial officers in the State of Michigan.
