Formal Proceedings

In cases involving allegations of serious misconduct, the Commission typically institutes formal proceedings after the preliminary investigation is complete.  When these proceedings are instituted the Commission files a complaint, which constitutes a formal statement of the charges, and the matter becomes public.  The formal complaints initiated by the Commission since its inception can be accessed through the following links:

Please note that some matters were decided by the Supreme Court with the consent of the respondent and without a formal complaint being filed, so there is no formal proceeding.  Refer to the Alphabetical Listing by name for a complete listing of
respondents who were or are the subject of a formal complaint (whether it resulted in discipline or not), or who consented to some discipline imposed by the Supreme Court without the filing of a formal complaint.  Or, refer to the Michigan Supreme Court Decisions for a list of citations to cases addressing judicial disciplinary matters, and links to more recent opinions and orders.
